Machinist Work Leader
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard
Bremerton
02.2011 - 02.2014
As Work Leader in Shafting section, I coordinate with assist trades, perform face to face and written turnovers, and
assist with supervisor on assigning work to the machinists. Along with assigning work I make sure my co-workers are aware
of the dangers of the workplace and keep knowledge growing to ensure everybody stays safe. Train apprentices and helpers
during the many different evolutions in our daily work processes in the machine shop and in Main Propulsion Shaft repair.
I take control of all Quality Assurance aspects in the section work packages, machining, measuring, documenting,
verifying, completing and certifying.
I have performed IAB/RAB Subsafe Controlled assembly pre-job briefs with C/133,c/740,and S/31 present. I have
initiated and filled out FAB records per applicable instructions and technical directions to manufacture various components
to ensure material tractability and accountability(OQE) for Testing & NDT requirements. I refer to all the required technical
Drawings and maintenance standards.
Journeyman Machinist
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard
Bremerton
10.2008 - 02.2011
As a Journeyman Machinist in the Shafting section, I took ownership of every job that I was assigned and displayed high
attention to detail in every part or feature that I machined. I reviewed work packages before the start of every job and
reviewed engineering drawings to establish a plan of action on how I would be successful. I performed in-process & final
dimensional inspections and performed mechanic level completion of work review of the technical work package.
I am proficient and running large manual & retrofit cnc shaft lathes. The cnc shaft lathe has milling & grinding
attachments and is a programmable 4-axis machine. I have written G&M code by hand using advanced trigonometry
methods to calculate tool paths for both mill and turn machining (i.e., O-ring & Lock ring grooves, fiberglass prep features,
shaft tapers and diameters). I am proficient with MasterCam computer aided machining (CAM) program to model geometry
to develop 2D profile toolpath of shaft keyways profiles.
My duties as a journeyman Machinist have been turning and/or cylindrical grind bore plugs to provide an interference
fit with bore fit areas in shaft; Surface grinding keys for a light drive fit with shaft key ways; roll grinding and/or turning
outside diameters of shaft journals and/or shaft sleeves; refurbishment of inboard coupling sleeves bore and keys to fit up
with certified ring gage.
I am proficient in using the precision measurement tools and carry the Precision Measurement qualification. Examples
of these tools are micrometers, dial indicators, vernier calipers, intramics, gage blocks, scales, and dial indicators accurate
to .0001".
