My personal belief is that SMART 24, in order to remain competitive and survive in the current socioeconomic climate, *must* expand its organization efforts. In this role I will combine traditional top down organization techniques with gritty bottom up tactics; Middle-Out organizing if you will. Cincinnati and Southpoint are in desperate need of organization, these districts are unable to stand up their own organizer staff and the sad reality is they are the two in most desperate need of organizing. They are unable to support an organizer as they don't have the market share, they don't have the market share because they cannot support an organizer.
Should Local 24 wish to strengthen its weaker districts, it *will* require the helping hands of our stronger districts. Who better to reach down a helping hand to Southpoint and Cincinnati than our stronger brothers in Columbus and Dayton.
To truly solidify our market share, it is my personal opinion that Local 24 should employ a 5 member organizer staff. One organizer per district; from that district that knows that districts members, contractors, but most importantly it's needs. Four district organizers, all reporting to our duly elected lead organizer; Dean Lacey.
Should we ever strive for reunification of our fractured local, organizing is the first building block we must lay.
