I started growing cannabis for fun when I was 13. My dad had a green thumb and an amazing vegetable garden. I learned everything he could teach me. Then, in college, I started growing for profit. At first, my grows were small, only 30 plants. When I got the hang of it, I moved to expand; I had four grows in New Jersey and 1 in Brooklyn, New York. Post 911, with all eyes on the borders on what's coming in and going out, the cannabis connections started to dry up. I took advantage of this and started four more grows, 1 in Newark, NJ, and the other three in Brooklyn, New York. I ran all nine grows from selection to propagation and cloning, paying all the bills and, most importantly, ensuring my people were safe. For example, after someone brought their significant other to a handful of grows to show off, I shut everything down immediately. That was in 2005; I didn't grow again until 2009 when I moved to Michigan to help my mom take care of my dad, who was diagnosed with cancer. I became his all-around caregiver. I gave him his shots, took him to the doctor, and grew his cannabis. After a few small harvests, I made some friends who were medical patients. I started growing for them as a caregiver. I kept a full card of happy patients from 2012to2016. In 2016, my dad passed away, and I needed a change of scenery. I moved back to New York, the laws looked like they were about to change, and I wanted to get ahead of the game. However, that fell flat. I didn't want to give up on growing legally, so I went back into construction to make the money to do the next step. After connecting with my wife, we planned to move to Detroit, where I could find a job growing top-quality cannabis.
