Summary

I am thrilled to represent CREST as their Teacher of the Year!!!. To be nominated by my peers is humbling. I would like to put CREST on the map. I want fellow teachers to know how everybody can work together as a team It is possible!!! I would love to share how we have behavior plans that work. I would like to share the importance of using core vocabulary boards to get students learning to communicate effectively. I love what I do as a teacher. My biggest joy is when I see growth in my students, parents see growth in their child, and when former students come back and tell me I made a difference in their life. In 2020, I had a stem cell transplant. I didn't know if I was going to make it. My desire to come back to school and work with my students again was so strong, I returned in 6 months. I could have retired...but signed up for at least 3 more years. I'm not ready to give it up. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!!!

Student Inclusion Project at IMS for 5 years

Robbie Garvin , Mark Algeo and myself got a grant to start a student inclusion project at IMS.The objective was to give students with disabilities the opportunity to make friends with students in general education. Peer students were interviewed and selected based on who we thought would match up with my students. It was meant to last only 1 year. Mr. Algeo and I decided to not take the salary money for ourselves and put it back into the program. It lasted 5 years!! Students went to ball games , mini golfing, swimming, end of year trips, and pizza parties, It was very successful and a great experience for everybody involved.
