Responsible for Navy messaging and COMSEC material. Completes updates of the local computer network and troubleshoots all network problems. Work for and closely with the Captain and the Navy’s local area command. Maintains and calibrates all electronic and navigational equipment.

Assists engineer by checking oil and water levels of tug and launch motors; oils and greases clutches, cables, and steering gears as required. Chips rust; cleans and paints tug, launches, barges, bulkheads, deck, and living quarters aboard dredge.

Docking/undocking procedures (handling lines, securing ship, etc.) and assisting with loading and discharging of cargo. Standing watch, either as lookout or on the bridge steering the vessel. Performing deck related maintenance duties under supervision of the Boatswain

• Assist in the operation of the ship's deck department.
• Perform maintenance on deck equipment.
• Assist in handling sails and mooring lines.
• Perform lookout duties.
• Help to maintain the ship's hull, superstructure and decks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the deck officers.

The bowman is in control of all sail hoists and drops depending on the point of sail, the bowman spends most of thier time on the foredeck preparing for spinnaker hoists, gibes and drops. Communication is vital between the boat captain, pitman and mast man to ensure a smooth race.

Handle lines, Fenders, Fuel the boat, General Maintenance including cleaning, Handling customers luggage, and wash down the boat every evening
