  • City Driver/Dock Worker, ABF Freight, 3100 Springhill Dr, North Little Rock, AR, 72117, Pat Blaylock, (501) 945-9862, pblaylock@abf.com, $31.00/hr or $64,480 annually, 02/2019, Current, 45+ hours worked per week, Conducted routine inspections and maintenance on vehicle electronic systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations., Utilized company IT systems for tracking and logging freight deliveries, ensuring accurate and timely updates., Collaborated with team members and dispatchers to coordinate logistics and troubleshoot any issues related to shipment tracking., Maintained detailed logs and records using digital tools, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations., Operated and managed freight-handling equipment, ensuring safe loading and unloading procedures., Engaged with customers to address concerns and ensure satisfaction, leveraging customer management software., Consistently recognized for maintaining high safety standards and compliance with regulatory requirements., Before every trailer is deemed ready to close out for traveling across the country, a safety check is required. During a trailer close out, I noticed that the trailer was loaded with incompatible hazmat., I was tasked with closing out a trailer. Every trailer is loaded electronically and is cross-checked automatically for incompatible hazardous material or incompatible shipments in general. Generally speaking, there is no need for someone to physically check the shipments before closing out a trailer., Knowing which hazardous materials are compatible and incompatible, I immediately noticed that there was dangerous when wet hazmat and flammable liquid hazmat loaded inside the trailer. I quickly notified the CDM supervisor, and we took the flammable when wet hazmat off immediately., If that trailer was allowed to leave the yard with incompatible hazardous materials, then it potentially could have cost thousands of dollars in damage or even worse, loss of life. The lesson learned here for me, to not 100% of the time rely on the electronic shipping system to cross-check hazardous materials and to check them myself when needed.
  • Union Pacific Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, North Little Rock, AR, 10/2014, 11/2018, 50+ hours worked per week, Performed speedy and accurate inbound, in-process and outbound inspections of ~15 railcars per day., Conducted safe and efficient operation of freight trains in accordance with Union Pacific Railroad operating rules and regulations., Coordinated with train crew members and dispatchers to ensure timely delivery of freight to customers and adherence to train schedules., Inspected trains and equipment for proper operation, including brakes, air pressure, and other critical components, to ensure safe operation and compliance with Federal Railroad Administration regulations., Communicated with customers and other stakeholders to provide updates on train status and address any concerns or issues., Collaborated with other members of the train crew and management to continuously improve processes and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs., Triggered track switches with the utmost attention to detail and safety in mind., Directed locomotive drivers with detailed instructions for entering and leaving the mechanical facility., Followed safety protocols for exiting the maintenance pit., Safely drove locomotives inside/outside of maintenance buildings to build potential trains to drive across the country., Maintained an outstanding attendance record, consistently arriving at work on time and ready to start immediately., Followed company safety rules and procedures to protect team members and equipment., Trained new personnel on the safety rules of operating locomotives and forklifts., There were 3 locomotives hooked together on the maintenance pit that needed to be moved to the yard. Before leaving the maintenance pit, we are to ensure all safety flags and personnel are free from locomotives before operating the locomotives., I was called upon to lead a team of 4 people to take these locomotives from the maintenance pit to the yard, which involves the utmost safety. One of the guys on my team was newer and had recently come out of training., With safety in mind and knowing I had a person on my team that recently came out of training, before operating the locomotives, I took it upon myself to do a full walk around. During the walk around, I found that there was still a machinist underneath the locomotive that was in the process of changing the brakes on the locomotive. I halted the task of moving the locomotives and brought this up to the maintenance control., Leaving the maintenance pit with someone underneath the locomotive would have caused serious injury to that person or possible loss of life. If the brakes were removed, and we took off, this would have caused catastrophic damage to the locomotives and the building which would have resulted in millions of dollars in damage and possible loss of life.

During this operation, I could tell that our lead medic was not performing well under the pressure of the chaotic situation. I took it upon myself to step in as the lead medic., After stepping up as the medic in charge, I assessed all 6 of the patients that we had, ordered the appropriate treatments, and even set two IV lines myself. I coordinated the evacuation of these patients via 9-line medivac request and successfully extracted all patients from the hostile area.
