I worked as a paraprofessional for 8 years in 4th grade before deciding to go back to school and get my degree in education. I knew that I wanted to be a lead teacher and I was determined to make that happen. Since I already worked at the Charter school, I knew that I just needed a Bachelors Degree to get the job so that is why I went with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Educational Studies. I do plan on going back and getting my teaching certificate. Teaching students is my heart. From working in youth ministry from the age of 16 until now all the way to teaching in the classroom. My greatest desire is to make a positive impact on students.
I have been trained in project read and touch math. I have also attended the Strengthening Social Studies and Literacy workshop in New Orleans and have attended the LDOE Literacy Tour the past 2 summers.
I have been president of our school PTO since 2016. My 1st year teaching in 3rd grade we were self contained, so I taught all 4 subjects. This year in November we moved to departmentalized and I have been teaching math only. Although I love spending my days just teaching math, I miss the relationship you have with your students being self contained. Having the same 27 students everyday allowed you to learn the students strengths and weaknesses better and have a closer relationship than it does not that I teach 78 students everyday.
