  • At Long Island Head Start, I accompanied the teacher in managing the classroom. I learned a lot about how to manage children's challenging behaviors and how to form relationships with my children's parents to help them feel comfortable having their children in my care. I also learned how to create lesson plans that followed the curriculum but still kept the children engaged and wanting to learn. At Head Start, I made sure that all my children felt comfortable and safe and always comforted them if they needed it. I also helped manage conflicts and helped the children gain skills on how to deal with their own emotions and manage their own conflicts. I also prepared reports on student performance for administrators and facilitated communication between families and school personnel about issues relating to students' academic progress. I also supervised small group activities in order to accurately assess each child's progress and ensure they were socializing with one another and sharing properly. Also, I learned the importance of keeping children active, so every morning I do dances and movements with the children. We also make sure we have as much time outside as possible.
