Caregiver

Woodland Heights Assisted Living
Tigard, OR
09.2018 - 03.2019

As a Caregiver, I was responsible for one floor which had 20 residents. About seven to ten of them needed my attention at all times for my 7.5 hour shift. There are two residents that where confined to a bed and would require the use of a hoyer. A typical day for me would start right at 6 am, getting residents up and out of bed, ready to take on their day. I would either do everything from a shower to applying makeup and doing up their hair. Or I'd just check in with a few, assist with shaving and then see if there where beds to be made and clothes to be folded and put away. Next step was to get residents to meals and to activities! Sometimes I'd help in the kitchen as well, serving meals and delivering room trays. There was always something to do.
In the month of March I made the choice to further my education within the Healthcare felid and took it upon myself to find a Free CNA training class at the Avamere Crestview of Portland. This was a 6 week class that was Monday though Friday, 7am-1pm. In April I graduated and passed both my written and skills test and obtained my CNA the following month.

  • Helped clients handle all personal needs, from simple cleaning and daily exercise to bathing and personal grooming.
  • Documented information in patient charts and communicated status updates to interdisciplinary care team.

Resident Care Aide

Michael Baker
Gladstone, OR
12.2016 - 09.2018
  • My duties as a PCA was to grab an "Alert" phone and check to see if there are any calls the moment I got in.
  • If not, I would then go and start any laundry in the laundry room and put the napkins in the dryer.
  • (I'll have to fold them all individually later that night) After that task is finished I then go and start setting up the dinner room.
  • I set out glasses, coffee cups and plates.
  • Silverware is to be laid out a certain way soon after.
  • All while answering calls in between tasks, the next thing I will need to do is refill all the sugars, jelly's and cream tabletops that have been used up.
  • I then re-oginaze the table contents in the middle so it looks organized and presentable for the community in the morning.
  • My next task is to refill and organize the condiment organizer at the self serve station.
  • Once that is all taken care of I fold all 200 napkins, and place them out on all tables with the menus.
  • I then go to my assigned rooms and pick up clutter, hang up clean clothes, organize shoes, take out dirty laundry, clean out the sink of dirty dishes, take out all trash in the apartment, clean toilet area as needed and empty catheter bags as the night goes on.
  • Once 4am rolls around I start to get up my residents.
  • This includes showers, dressing for the day/event, incontinent care, and making sure resident has good hygiene make sure to ask the resident if there is anything else I can do for them before I leave, just to make sure they are comfortable and have everything they need before starting their day.
  • Once my task list is complete, I then go and chart on the residents that are on "Alert" and document their behaviors an actions that I monitored.
  • The next step for me is to then chart in the 24 Hour book as well, this includes anything that has happened in the last 24 hours that is important for everyone to know.
  • I then do a follow up report with the incoming shift so that everyone is on the same page and knows what they are
