I have been a member of Professional Governance, a unit based team, since summer of 2023. Being a part of this team allows be to stay in the know of best practice and any changes in policy so that I can provide the best patient care. I perform skin and bath audits monthly to ensure our team is diligent in care. In January of 2025 I assumed the role of chair of professional governance.
In Spring of 2024 I became certified in ultrasound guided peripheral IV insertion.
In Fall of 2024 I joined SWAT (skin, wound, assessment and treatment) a house wide team that meets every three months to assess patients in all areas of the hospital.
In September 2024 I became certified to precept new nurses.
In February 2025 as chair of professional governance, I initiated project POPI (prevention of pressure injuries) with collaboration from members of professional governance. We assess every patient on our unit on a weekly basis to determine the number of patients with braden skin scores less than 18 and if the appropriate skin interventions are being used, if not we put them in place. Upon collecting this data I create a pie chart to share the data in our professional governance meetings. This is an ongoing project and we plan to use this data to provide education to nursing staff with the goal being to decrease HAPI's.
