Colton Brown-Sowards

As a Nurse Intern 1, I work directly under the nurse to coordinate care for our ICU patients. In this position, I can perform in-depth assessments, practice hand-offs, witness first-hand, and assist with various procedures we do in our Baptist ICUs. These include performing blood transfusions, EKG monitoring/interpretations, assisting with intubations, extubating, bronchoscopies, chest tube insertion, NG tube placement, uroscopy, post-mortem care, medication titration, and so much more. From catheters to glucose monitoring to communicating with families, I have honed and practiced many fundamental and core nursing skills.

I started my online business during the COVID-19 pandemic and my first year of college. Managing clients on top of college assisted me in my mastery of time management. Through this business, I was able to reach and connect with people from every walk of life imaginable, each with their unique communication style, developmental level, and learning method. Ultimately, people want to feel heard, understood, and seen.

I worked under and assisted PCAs in caring for patients with cerebral palsy, down syndrome, various degrees on the neurodivergent spectrum, behavioral disorders, individuals with mutism, and other various disabilities. Through my work as an assistant PCA, I gathered experience coordinating care for a plethora of different types of patients, some of whom have unique disabilities and require a certain kind of care.
