• Assist providers with screening patients by obtaining chief of complaint and vital signs.

• Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates the unit plan for nursing care in the Adult Medicine Clinic and Adult Medicine Clinic sublets including: Chiropractor clinic, Rheumatology Clinic, and Endocrinology Clinic.
• Ensure that nursing care is consistent with IHS standards, national standards of care and accrediting bodies.
• Performs as a resource to staff, interpreting philosophy, goals, standards policies and procedures.
• Evaluates outcomes of unit program and investigates problems, irregularities and violations of standards, taking appropriate corrective action.
• Keeps abreast of current trends and practices related to adult (including geriatrics) health, their caregivers and patient progress.
• Promotes and participates in patient and caregiver education; ensures consistency and continuity by developing and implementing adequate teaching guidelines.
• Provides adequate, appropriate and equitable staffing within available resources to deliver nursing care in the Adult Medicine Clinic and sublet clinics Monday-Friday.
• Assigns, coordinates and supervises the specific duties of each level of nursing personnel on the unit to ensure patients' needs are adequately and safely met.
• Schedules daily activities of unit including assignments, breaks and training.
• Evaluates performance of nursing personnel assigned to the units, counsels and guides staff as indicated; initiates action necessary to ensure maintenance of an acceptable standard of performance including the progressive disciplinary procedures for conduct issues.
• Provides opportunities for staff growth and development by assigning staff to scheduled programs; ensuring staff receive annual mandatory training; begin aware of education opportunities in area.
• Conducts regular staff meetings/conferences to communicate hospital and nursing administration information and to explain methods, policies and procedures to improve quality of care.
• Effectively interviews and selects new staff.
• Actively supports hospital and nursing department decisions and objectives.
• Participates in hospital management activities.
• Implements a unit-based Performance Improvement program that involves unit staff.
• Participates with other supervisory nursing personnel in program planning activities; decision making; evaluation and formation of policies; problem solving matters and committee activities.
• Attends supervisor meetings and continuing education programs to maintain and enhance managerial competence.
• Reviews and revises unit policies and procedures to comply with current trends and standards.

• Maintains effective communication with coworkers and staff.
• Prepares and submits reports and records required of the unit.
• Coordinates with other departments to provide therapeutic, safe and functional care to patients. Plans with other members of the health care team, special details of patient care to provide continuity of care. Promotes good working relationships with other agencies and the community.
• Review the quality and performance of any/all members of the Adult Medicine Clinic nursing staff.
• Identify and correct personnel management issues.
• Ensure that staff assignments are adequate to provide quality care.
• Serve as the leave approving official to all subordinate staff.
• Participates in direct patient care as needed.
