Chad Hughes

After high school, I went to college as a full time student for a year and a half. But unfortunately withdrew so that I could care for my disabled grandmother and terminally ill grandfather full time. Upon his passing, I continued that care with my grandmother as my primary full time job completing tasks such as:

• Assisted with client personal care needs to foster independence and well-being.
• Managed client's schedule of doctor's appointments, therapies.
• Accompanied clients to doctors' offices and on other trips outside home, providing transportation, assistance and companionship.
• Greeted patients and families with enthusiastic, compassionate attitude to establish long-term professional relationships.
• Entertained, conversed with or read aloud to patients to maintain mental health and alertness.
• Delivered high level of assistance with cooking, meal preparation and shopping.
• Recognized emergency situations and implemented appropriate procedures.
• Assisted clients with mobility issues by using appropriate transfer techniques.
• Aided with mobility and independence for disabled individuals and continually monitored safety.
• And aid with any other task required of me 24/7

While such an employment arrangement may seem informal, I would attest that it has fostered growth of skills and character traits that will aid me well for the rest of my life, and in any occupation I have. Skills such as: adaptability, customer service, communication, organization, flexibility, and social skills. But more so than the skills I have fostered are the character traits this work has taught me, like: dependability, empathy, accountability, patience, and equanimity.

I strongly believe these skills I have obtained will translate well to any occupation for communicating with co workers or customers, and performing a variety of tasks with flexibility and diligence.

This was my high school job where I assisted and worked on a variety of construction and building projects. From building barns and other building for outdoor use, constructing fence lines, renovation projects, driveway construction, and other projects as required varying with client needs. A variety of projects which required the completion of tasks such as:

• Moved heavy objects using dollies, carts, hoists, or other manual labor techniques.
• Assisted with diverse construction challenges to help team and customer.
• Loaded and unloaded materials onto trucks for delivery to job sites..
• Measured, marked or recorded openings or distances to construction layout areas.
• Cut lumber into specified sizes using saws or other woodworking tools.
• Performed demanding physical work over extended periods and modeled positive attitude.
• Installed drywall panels or tiles on walls or ceilings according to specifications.
• Mixed, poured, and spread concrete, asphalt gravel and other materials.
• Constructed formwork for concrete pours according to plans provided by supervisors.
• Assembled prefabricated components such as windows, doors, and trusses according to instructions.
• Completed variety of physical labor tasks.
• Performed general maintenance duties such as painting walls or installing insulation.
• Demonstrated best safety practices working at heights and lifting various objects.
• implemented detailed measuring and precision construction.

Completing tasks in this work was demanding but rewarding. I developed crucial skills at a critical time such as: teamwork, organization, attention to detail, work ethic, adaptability, initiative, efficiency, and resourcefulness.
