I have honed my communication skills as I have found that effective communication is essential in running an orderly housing unit, and by extension, an orderly institution.
My observation skills have also sharpened in that I know what my surroundings are at all times and I'm familiar with inmate gangs, rivalries, and other problematic areas including gambling and extortion.
I routinely assist new arrival inmate's in getting acclimated to the prison environment and get them up to speed on policy/procedure and other protocols as necessary.
