Firearms Instructor

  • Develop and implement comprehensive firearms training that fits the needs of our department.
  • Conduct safety briefings prior to range work.
  • Adhere to strict state standards for qualifying all members of our department with both department issued pistol and rifle.
  • Create and review challenging training exercises for Emergency Response Team/SWAT operations candidates and members.
  • Integrate firearms training with K9 Unit Officers from within our Unit as well as other regional agencies.
  • Construct realistic training environments often out of 2x4 lumber and OSB. Transport these to a location and dismantle once training is complete.

  • Completed 3 month Police K9 training academy at St. Paul Police Department K9 Unit with K9 Atlas.
  • I am solely responsible for updated and continued training with K9 Atlas with target of 16 hours per month of training in narcotics detection, article location, human tracking, and suspect apprehension.
  • As a K9 handler, per policy, I become in command of any incident if my K9 is deployed.
  • I work to provide training opportunities for other K9 Handlers and Officers in the region given Superior's unique waterfront location, my relationship with local businesses, and our access to large vessels on the Lake Superior Harbor.
  • Remaining up to date on K9 associated case law in regards to narcotics and apprehension work.
  • Complete regular patrols to ensure public safety, deter criminal activity, as well as work in conjunction with local, state, and other agencies to achieve a common goal.
  • K9 Atlas and I work as team members of the Superior Police Department Emergency Response Team.
  • Develop relationships with community organizations, local business leaders, local government officials and school districts staff/students to increase awareness of K9 Officer's role within the community.
  • Document training exercises, deployment records, review and determine best practices in order to better suit K9 Atlas, myself, and other K9 Handlers within my unit.

  • Completed ERDI (Emergency Rescue Dive International) training for underwater search (evidence) and rescue/recovery.
  • Deployed in various regions including: Superior Harbor, Apostle Islands/Chequamegon Bay, Lake Nebagamon, Lake St. Croix, among others to search for evidence and victims.
  • Testified in court for a murder trial associated with evidence collected by my team.
  • Operated and maintained large Lake Superior Vessel.
  • Executed routine maintenance of diving equipment to guarantee operational readiness. Trained to rebuild full face mask system.

  • Completed ice diving certification in Spring of 2022.
