Summary

As a 0861 Fire Support Marine attention to detail is everything. In some cases, there may be a maneuver element within danger close range of impacts from artillery, naval, or aircraft ordnances. Attention to friendly unit positions, enemy positions, and fire support agency positions in order to prevent fratricide is the most important aspect of the job. Another skill is critical thinking and timely decision making. What to attack a target with and when to attack a target is a decision that has to be made fast in order to meet intent of the commander. As a Corporal of Marines, I've also gained significant leadership skills with the junior Marines under me. Demanding the best from my Marines is most important in order to make a product better than myself.
