I started out my career with Time Warner Cable Construction Division as a coax splicer. I had absolutely no experience whatsoever, but i fell in love with every aspect of cable construction. Although I was building strand, coax, and fiber, I was never a fiber splicer. It always intrigued me, but I was learning everything I could at the time about the coax side from design to splicing and troubleshooting. That of course lead to several years of working in the Maintenance Department, and eventually taking on an MT Supervisor role for 4 years.
With 13 years of Maintenance experience I made the move back into Construction when a position opened up for the Fiber Team. I didn't have the splicing experience so I knew it was going to be a rough ride, but I also knew I had a good team of splicers that would have my back, and help me whenever I needed their support. I've not only learned a lot about splicing, but I've learned a lot about the design, as build process, and different ways of troubleshooting commercial, and residential designs.
I'm applying for this job because I really miss being in the field using my splicing, and troubleshooting skills. I have no problems with working at night, or working overtime as needed. I've played a role in multiple projects such as the NRP sweep project in Maintenance where I had to keep up with daily progress, and present power points to our Corporate NRP team so I'm no stranger to documentation.
I'm very thankful that I was trusted enough to be hired for the Construction Supervisor position, but personally I've always felt like something was missing. That something I believe is my lack of fiber splicing experience. I want to be proficient at everything fiber, and I really feel that with what I've already learned in the last two years, I would be a great addition to the splicing team.
