Used information provided to custom design unit’s casing and sub-assemblies that hold the various coils, heaters, filters, desiccant wheels and fans needed to fulfill the requirements the lead engineer laid out in design document, typically comprising of 600 to 6,000 individual sheetmetal fabricated pieceparts and components. Also completed layout drawings needed for the fabrication and assembly teams to manufacture the units.
Primary designer for a custom unit ordered larger than the usual limits of our design that remained too big even after having the sections separated for shipping on trucks. Collaborated with Assembly leads, Welding lead, Panel bending lead to figure out the new constraints the larger design would have on how our sub-assemblies would be put together, the limits on what we could fabricate with our machines, what kind of weld notes welding would need for the extended parts and what we would need to outsource. Worked with Sr. CAD designers to brainstorm on how to extend or reinvent current sub-assembly designs and spent time with the assembly leads to get their feedback on how to make the assembly drawings to effectively display the new designs for their usability and to get their feedback on how the built-up tolerances and extra weight would affect the larger unit.
Designed a special case unit where a cooling coil needed to be placed in the reactivation section that would normally be smaller than it. This required a new design to step up the size of the section to ensure there would be enough space for the coil, for adequate drainage and access doors. Brainstormed with Sr. CAD designers to keep the design watertight, with good drainage, on how to integrate our coil and drain designs into the space with restricted access. During the design process, talked to the assembly leads to get pointers on what information they would need to put together this unique assembly.
Created a new design for installing a pair of steam humidifier that had been ordered to fulfil the unique requirements of the unit. The two humidifiers needed to be installed in a staggered Z to allow maximum airflow, reduce footprint, and allow space for piping to hook up the humidifiers. For this unit I worked with the Piping Lead to determine the clearance needed for the installation of the pipes, also worked with the Sr. CAD designer to determine how to minimize the number of parts needed to restrict the airflow through the humidifiers. For this project I had to pay attention to eliminate any spots that could have water buildup and keeping the assembly rigid to hold the considerable weight of the humidifier for transport.
Sales team needed a set of their standard piping drawings for an IDF heater updated, they had lost the models used to create the previous drawings so I was assigned to make new ones. Using the old drawings as reference I replicated the pipe layout. Following the feedback of the sales team I added their updated instructional notes for the IDF pipe layout.
Our team was in need of updated documentation for common assemblies design processes for onboarding and standardization. I collaborated with engineering to document how to collect and read the information provided by the lead engineer to understand the requirements for our projects. During this process I wrote instructions on how to make common assemblies in SolidWorks and how to modify them to integrate bought part assemblies like fans, heaters, as well as how to build the outside casing of the unit.
