This summer job taught me how to manage time effectively as I was in charge of arranging the daily agenda and ensuring that daily goals were met. Serving and picking up lunches was another task within this job that required accountability and responsibility as allergies and other dietary restrictions required me to plan accordingly to ensure the safety of the campers. Flexibility also acted as a key component to this job as I collaborated with others and was open to improvements and changes. The day-to-day duties of the job were completed accurately and efficiently as my organizational and communicational skills were implemented.
This job taught me management skills. As a keyholder, my job was to run the store which included tasks such as customer service, employee management, and closing duties. Within these duties, I closed the store every night and enabled the alarm system. Another component I was in charge of was balancing the registers with the specific amount of money necessary for the next day. This included securing the money within a safe and ensuring that my math was correct for the next employees who came in to work. Leadership was something that I was able to do and learn further within this job experience.
Through my first job, I learned multiple skills revolving around customer service. I worked at the front of the restaurant and greeted. This taught me to be cognitive and quick responding to the needs of customers as they would first enter the restaurant. One of my duties in this job was to seat customers which involved organization. Organization was an important skill for this role as seating customers involved rotating where they were sat with reference to which section each server. Professionalism was gained from this job experience as I answered the phones which required patience and sympathy, even when mistreatment occurred. Another responsibility within the job included bagging carryout which required coordination and accuracy. Time management was used for getting the carryout completed efficiently and on time. Before I was a hostess at El Charro, I was a busser. Within a month of working there, I went above and beyond expectations and received my promotion to a role of a hostess.
