I have worked at the Oak Tree Country Club, a fine dining restaurant in Bear Valley Springs, since the beginning of October 2022. I started out in the position of server assistant which was essentially the role of a busser. I learned to be quick and efficient in gauging the customer's needs whether a plate should be cleared, glass refilled, or relaying requests to and accomplishing tasks for the server. Over the course of those eleven months, I also moved on to work as a hostess, food runner, cashier, and server, and also completed training in Food Handling and Responsible Beverage Service.
As a hostess, my customer service and communication skills were refined as I would take reservations, answer countless questions over the phone, and greet and seat guests entering the dining room. While food running I learned the importance of moving and thinking swiftly and accurately so that there would be no delay or mistake in the customers receiving their meals. I would also run the snack bar for the pool, learn to take orders, work the POS system, handle payments and now have been trained as a server in the dining room and have been working in that position for the last month. Serving tables was the true test of the many skills I had gained in my other positions as I was expected to be the main point of contact for the customer and ensure that they had a pleasant experience befitting a fine dining restaurant.
Overall the skills I learned in the short time I worked at the Country Club have helped me appreciate the importance of a job well done and not only will they be applicable in the Food Service Industry but in any task I set my mind too. I would be a beneficial asset to any company, not because of those skills specifically but rather because of my passion and readiness to learn, determination to see a task through to the proper end, and all around versatility and willingness to work in any position.
