I spent most of my career with the Mississippi Department of Revenue. I started auditing tax returns for accuracy and presented my findings to the customer. From there I moved into making sure our employees were properly trained. During this time period I worked on several projects as requested by my manager. I tested a new income tax software system. Analyzed and maintained employee auditing stats for the entire state. Reviewed results to determine where improvements were needed. This included identifying employees that needed additional training. I would make my recommendations to management. I then moved to a Bureau Director for Miscellaneous Taxes. This area was responsible for 30 different tax types. With this position I worked closely with various agency throughout the state. From there I became the Office Director of Income taxes. In this position, I dealt more with big picture details on how to improve tax return processing to ensure efficient tax return filings and issuance of refunds. I was also responsible for the auditing of individuals and corporate income tax filers. Since retiring from the Department of Revenue, I have been working as a client accounting analyst for a financial software development company. I create mapping spreadsheets through Excel which a client can upload into their accounting software. We use the clients general ledger account numbers to create the ledgers for them so they can rely on the accounting export.
I received my Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1991. I have maintained my certificate since that time.
