I was part of a team as a circulating nurse for the cardiac Cath lab and interventional and neurointerventional radiology lab, where I provided direct patient care pre- and post-procedure, and administered conscious sedation.
I circulated cases in the cardiac cath lab for routine or emergent coronary angiograms that potentially involved percutaneous coronary intervention(s), PFO/ASD closures, right and left heart catheterizations, loop recorder placements, MitraClip procedures, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). I circulated cases that incorporated the use of Impella, intravenous ultrasound (IVUS), Penumbra Cat RX, and Diamondback for atherectomy.
I circulated cases in the interventional radiology lab, involving but not limited to port-a-catheter placement and removal, gastrostomy tube placement, nephrostomy tube placement, fistulograms, hemodialysis catheter placement, arteriograms and venograms, uterine fibroid embolization, drain placement and checks for abscess, gastrointestinal bleed management, arterial thrombolysis, and pulmonary thrombolysis with Inari.
I circulated cases for the neurointerventional radiology team during an acute stroke, embolizations of aneurysms, and carotid stenting.
Some shifts, I was assigned as the Interventional Radiology Resource Nurse. In this role, I prepped patient charts for upcoming procedures, per protocol, I placed pending orders for medications to be temporarily discontinued or started, called patients or worked with the nurses from the unit for pre-procedure teaching, helped plan for discharge and did post-procedural teaching.
