During my PRN employment, I worked in NICU, Newborn Nursery, and Post Partum. In NICU, I cared for level I & II babies. I did admission assessments, communicated with physicians, carried out orders from physicians, including, placement of peripheral and umbilical IVs, insertion of NG and OG tubes, administered medications via PO, NG, OG, IM, and IV. I am proficient in using Finnegan scoring for NAS. In Newborn Nursery, I did admissions of newborns, initial assessments, including gestational age. I communicated with physicians regarding initial assessment of newborns and plan of care. I performed hearing screens, breastfeeding education and discharge education prior to discharge of infants. My last few years of employment, I was fulltime on the Post Partum Unit, however, I floated to the other units when needed.
I was employed fulltime in the Newborn Nursery, taking assignments and also doing Charge. I attended deliveries, did initial assessments, communicated with physicians, carried out orders for medication administration, logging of feedings, and outputs. I was a Certified Breastfeeding Educator. I also assisted in stabilizing newborns for transfer to NICU.
I started my employment as a Graduate Nurse on the Post Partum Unit. I quickly became proficient in admissions, assessments, medication administration, recovery, breastfeeding and discharge education. I advanced to Charge on the night shift. I floated to nursery when needed and eventually transferred there, doing assignments in addition to Charge.
