As a surgical technologist in the GI lab your responsible for set up of equipment, supplies, and all items needed for procedure. Greeting and introduction of your self to help patient feel at ease with procedure. Instructing patient on positioning for procedure and assisting doctor. Must have timely turnovers between cases working with all team members to ensure safety and quality of care for patients. Would sometimes assist in transporting patient to recovery. We work with vendors to learn more about new equipment and procedures, especially the advanced procedures.

  • Responsible for receiving mechanical seals for repair and logging them into computer with correct description. Seals would be taken apart on down draft table to help with toxic fumes. Respirator, nitrile gloves and nitrile apron were worn for safety. Parts were scrapped if they were not salvageable. They are soda blasted and sand blasted for safe handling. Use of calipers and micrometers to check dimensions of parts. Parts are buffed and QC for assembly which prints are used for proper assembly. Other tools used for disassembly of seals are drill press, oven, drills, die grinders, presses, lapping machine, thread gauges. Also responsible for assembly, testing, and shipping of seals.

  • Duties as lab tech include monitoring of drinks with routine checks, operation of filler using proper codes and procedures. Responsible for calibration of monitoring equipment. Also insure proper changeover procedures are in place for all correct materials in a timely manner. Use of computers to document, research and monitor various coke products.
