Accomplishments

  • November 1, 2021
  • Dear Parents/Guardians
  • The opening of the 2021-22 school year has been anything but typical
  • Our students and staff have had to overcome all of the usual obstacles of opening a school year
  • Then add to that COVID, 18 months of remote learning, and the increasing stress and anxiety in our daily lives
  • All of these factors are influencing our students and staff as evidenced by: Higher stress levels and symptomatic behaviors Higher anxiety level and symptomatic behaviors Rising absenteeism rates
  • As we transition into the colder months it is important to keep our buildings as safe and clean as possible
  • That is why we need to take a proactive approach before sealing them up for the winter
  • We are facing severe illness areas that require this proactive approach in order to prevent or limit spread: COVID-19 Influenza (Flu) Upper Respiratory Infection (URTI) Norovirus Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) Chickenpox
  • With the support of Public Health - Muskegon County, the Muskegon County ISD, and our Board of
  • Education, I am activating two of our emergency days to close the district on November 22 and
  • November 23, 2021
  • These two days will allow us to recognize the following benefits as a district:
  • All buildings will be deep cleaned and sanitized prior to the onset of the cold weather
  • Students and staff can use the time for a mental health and wellness break
  • The adjustment back to a learning environment after 18 months virtually has proven to be a stressful and anxious time for many of us
  • While this couple of days of time is not a solution, it is a step in the right direction toward encouraging relief and self care that we all need to practice
  • These days will help to keep Muskegon Public Schools in a proactive response stance allowing us to avoid as much illness, stress, and burnout as possible for our students and staff
  • It also occurs in between our fall and winter sports seasons
  • Families that wish to do a food pickup for the missing days (2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, 7 dinners, 7 snacks) please either register by clicking MPS Food Pickup Thanksgiving Week or call Brenda at2013
  • Pickup will be on Monday 11/22/21 from 11:00am - 1:30pm at Muskegon High School
