Work History

Senior Underwriting Consultant

United Healthcare
Minnetonka, MN
01.2010 - Current
  • I transitioned back to Key Accounts due to a desire to work with larger groups and continue my growth with opportunities to work on both fully insured and self-funded (ASO) arrangements.
  • In the Desert Mountain States (which encompasses 7 states) we have built strong relationships with the field that have allowed us to work collaboratively in our efforts to meet or exceed our new business and persistency targets.
  • I have had opportunities to work on complex cases, develop products and processes (Rewards Now, Plan Change Tab in pricing tools, etc) and head up projects with the goal of improving efficiency and optimizing our tools.
  • I have built many strong relationships internally with our team and externally with our field partners and elsewhere around our organization.
  • These relationships, along with competitive pricing and a consultative approach, have led to strong performance this year that I look to carry forward.
  • Teamwork: Have built strong relationships that are a significant advantage both internally and externally when working through the routine challenges we face and especially in the more complex situations we deal with from time to time.
  • Negotiation: Try to maximize revenue while still meeting our growth and persistency goals. Will push when necessary to drive the desired results.
  • Analysis: Perform detailed analysis on new business and renewal opportunities, research prospects and do everything possible to position our quote as competitively as possible.
  • Process Optimization: Initiated a project to streamline the plan modification process. Worked with partners in several areas of the company, including actuary, to achieve our goal, which we did.
  • Consensus building: Have worked hard to develop relationships internally and externally. This solid foundation allows us a better opportunity to work together to find solutions to challenging and complex problems.
  • Mentoring: I have mentored several new underwriters over the years. I have enjoyed working with them and helping them to better understand what it is that an underwriter does.
