In my lifetime, I have had the pleasure of being the mother to two amazing sons, a telemetry technician, sales manager, and teacher. All throughout, gaining unique skills that I believe make me a better teacher. My children have taught me to have patience and understanding in difficult situations. As a telemetry technician, I had peoples’ lives in my hands, which brought my professionalism and ability to preform under pressure to the forefront. I had to be responsible for the monitoring of up to 60 patients’ heart rhythms simultaneously. As a sales manager I frequently dealt with the public. This allowed me to hone my people skills. Not all customers are happy customers, but in these moments, I was allowed to build the ability to defuse situations. So far, my teaching experiences have given me the chance to work with Special Education students and General Education students. Through these experiences I have learned that all students, no matter their educational classification, have strengths and weaknesses. As an educator, I want to supply my students with the necessary scaffolding to break their learning barriers. I know that all special education students can be successful when given the opportunity and proper tools. If given the opportunity, these are the skills, knowledge, and compassion that I plan to implement into my students lives inside and out of the classroom.
