    On 2/12/2022 at about 1706 hours; (MC22025750) Deputy Kaufman (S2146), who is also a certified EMT, responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash near Tortilla Flat, on SR88 at MP214 (IR22003842). Upon arrival, Deputy Kaufman, found the operator, and sole occupant of the motorcycle, with severe injuries. Deputy Kaufman quickly recognized the need to provide medical care to the operator, who had sustained major trauma to his leg and was bleeding profusely. Deputy Kaufman applied a tourniquet to stop the operator from losing any more blood. Deputy Kaufman continued to provide care and treatment to the operator until advanced medical support was able to get on scene, nearly 40 minutes later.The operator was extracted from the location and taken to the Canyon Lake Aid Station via ambulance. The operator was flown via an air ambulance to a level one trauma center. At the trauma center, Deputy Kaufman's quick application of tourniquets were found to have saved the operator's life by stopping him from exsanguination. The operator received limb-altering surgery and was later listed in stable condition.

    Deputy Kaufman worked independently, due to the remote area, for an extended period. Deputy Kaufman is to be commended for his ability to handle a stressful and dynamic situation, reflecting favorable on the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.A leading cause of death in trauma related injuries is exsanguination, severe blood loss, and Deputy Kaufman's actions saved the life of the operator of the motorcycle. Follow-up with the hospital by Deputy James Cesolini, the Sheriff's Office EMS Coordinator/ Paramedic confirmed that Deputy Kaufman's application of the tourniquet and treatment of the motorcycle operator resulted in a life being saved. This was later confirmed by his supervisor watching the Deputy Body Worn Camera (BWC) video and further interview of a on scene rescue paramedic.

    Deputy Kaufman responded to a sick person emergency call. Upon his arrival he located a male slumped over in a chair at the west side of a motel room. The male subject was sweating profusely, had labored breathing, and did not respond to any stimulus. Deputy Kaufman recognized the signs and symptoms of a drug overdose and administered one dose of nasal Nalaxone to the man. The male began to breathe and care was transferred over to EMS care and the male made a full recovery.
