  • Media and solution preparation: Weigh, mix, adjust the pH, heat various combinations of components in water solutions, transfer these solutions between containers and instrumentation, and label these media solutions in accordance with lab quality program procedures, and autoclave to sterilize the product.
  • Sterilization: Sterilize prepared media, dirty containers, and waste materials. This involves placing the items into an autoclave and later removing them for use, for storage, or for disposal as appropriate.
  • Sample Preparation: Use aseptic technique to remove the appropriate amount of material from the item being analyzed, and place the samples into containers. These samples may be frozen, refrigerated, or at room temperature.
  • Dishwashing: Perform glassware washing, both manually and by using an automatic dishwasher. In both cases, this will involve emptying and hand-scrubbing various-sized containers, and transferring them between locations for washing, drying, use, sterilization, and storage.
  • Waste Collection and Disposal: Collect all contaminated, and otherwise dirty, waste materials from collection sites throughout the laboratory, and safely transfer them to the decontamination or disposal areas for further processing.
  • Laboratory Custodial Support: Maintain the cleanliness of all laboratory areas.
  • Laboratory Safety Support: Complete daily and weekly checks of all laboratory eye-washing and shower stations.
  • Temperature Mapping: Perform periodic temperature mapping of equipment or locations by placing temperature sensors in temperature-controlled units, and collecting data for the specified time period, as established by SOP.
  • Daily and weekly monitoring checks of the DI water systems.
  • Assisting with the monitoring of the DI water system by performing quality assurance checks, including visual checks on the system, such as reading meters, gauges, noting color changes, checking lights, etc.
  • Perform pipette calibration via the Artel Pipette Calibration System, in accordance with the laboratory’s SOP, making sure to properly label each pipette.

  • Being able to run PCR Testing via Hygiena BAX System Q7, that can detect pathogens reliably and range from rapid screening to highly specific testing, some of these tests include real-time PCR rapid tests, at the species and genus levels and a wide range of DNA extraction.
  • Performing Pharmaceutical Testing for the Pharmaceutical Department, via USP 61and USP 62 while following SOP and FDA methods. Continue with pharmaceutical testing following with batch actions, inoculating with the appropriate media, incubating sample in the appropriate incubator in regards to temperatures required for specific testing. Streaking all incubated samples on to the correct media agar plates in order to see if there is any potential growth. If growth is present report it based on if it’s typical or atypical. All samples that have growth present would then go through a confirmation process.
  • Assist with performing Vitek confirmation in order to assist in accurate microbial identification, and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
  • Assist with equipment autoclave duties, laboratory organization, supply inventory, calibrations, cleaning or sterilizing.
  • Perform regular maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Maintain a clean and sterilized laboratory environment.
  • Perform media and reagent preparation while also performing quality control.
  • Learn new techniques and technologies as appropriate.
