Under direct supervision of the Streets Supervisor, the purpose of this position is to perform general repair and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, signs, and signals. Employees in this classification perform manual level work. This position is responsible for the preparation of work area, tools, equipment, and may perform other related functions as assigned. This position is differentiated from the Streets Maintenance Technician III through conducting inspections, asset management, producing reports within the work order system, working with citizens to resolve issues, and filling for Crew Leader in the Crew Leaders absence. Participates in all phases of streets, gutter drainage and alley repair and construction. Assists preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices. Assist in preparing tools, materials, and equipment necessary for various job assignments. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly. Makes repairs in pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk using epoxy based chemicals and products with supervision. Operates simple to moderately complex equipment, such as concrete vibrator, jack hammer, concrete saw, pavement grinder and motorized/non-motorized hand tools. Maintains operational records, schedules and fills out work orders. Responds to emergency situations after hours and/or on weekends. Participates in establishing traffic control devices such as barricades and cones, Guides traffic flow at work sites. Assists with setup, teardown, and clean up of special events and meetings throughout the City. Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones, and road signs, and wears protective gear as indicated for the work assignment. Assist other City employees during storms and national disaster. Maintains operational records, schedules and fills out work orders. Inspects and secures job site by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices and enforces safety procedures. Operates, checks, and maintains light to moderate equipment with supervisor. Operates and maintains street saw and trailer. Operates street maintenance machinery and tools including dump trucks. Connects and disconnects trailers and properly secures loads for transport to and from jobsite. Cleans, maintains and stores all city equipment per direction from Supervisor or Crew Leader. Cleans and repair work site upon completion of construction projects. Hauls and operates light equipment to and from assigned worksite, such as street sweep broom, concrete saw, skid steer, mini excavator, and all gas-powered hand tools. Runs forklift to assist with loading and unloading. Sands roads and streets in icy and snowy weather. Performs maintenance on City streets, roadways, curbs, and alleys by operating light equipment and machinery such as dump truck with limited supervision. Prepares, gathers and transport tools, materials, supplies and equipment necessary to complete work assignments. Assists Crew Leader and other crew members to complete work orders in a safe and timely manner and operated as Crew Leader in his absence. Assist in training and leading others with work activities. Calculates amount of material needed for task. Operates sweeper, gradall, mini excavator, concrete truck, motor grader, heavy front-end loader, asphalt paver, backhoe and other heavy equipment with no supervision. Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones and road signs, and wears protective and safety gear as indicated for the work assignment. Conducts asset management in yard to ensure that material stays fully stocked for all tasks. Create reports based on daily tasks and wok orders within the work order system. Works with Fleet division to place truck/equipment in for repair and fills out the correct paperwork. Fills in for the Crew Leader when Crew Leader is absent. Resolves conflict that arises on the job site. Works with citizens in person and over the phone to resolve issues. Comply with all written City policies and procedures. Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures. If assigned to asphalt Assist with crack seal operations. Assist with all asphalt finishing hand tools. Assist with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt. Assist with pavement reconstruction and repairs. Operates crack seal blow gun and application wand. Operates street saw and cut saw. Fills potholes with hot mix asphalt and assists on the pothole patch truck. Operates various rollers and compactors with direction. Operates box blade tractor establishing proper pavement grade as well as operating a skid steer with various attachments. Operates a water truck which includes a tanker endorsement on driver’s license. Operates heavy equipment such as gradall, motor grader, excavator, and oil distributor truck. Hooks up, loads/unloads, and drives the equipment haul truck. Operates the asphalt milling machine from both the front-end loader and the ground. Operates an asphalt paving machine. Maintains, monitors, and operates asphalt oil storage system including tracking tank levels and cycling the system on a schedule. Operates pothole patching trucks including scheduling and documenting work. If assigned to concrete Assist with setting up forms and rebar. Assists crew members with small hand tools like shovels and concrete rakes. Sets forms and grade for concrete pours. Changes out saw blade and determines depth of saw cutting along with spacing of rebar and saw joint for expansion joints. Finishes concrete and curb builds. Operates skid steer, backhoe and break attachment. Remove concrete from work area and load in dump truck. Operates and maintains concrete truck. Possesses knowledge of concrete mix designs. If assigned to drainage Assist with shooting elevations. Assist with setting up forms and rebar. Assist crew members with small hand tools. Carries small debris from areas like creeks and lakes. Shoots elevations for grade. Sets forms and grade for concrete pours. Operates all hand tools and compaction tools safely. Operates a vacuum trailer. Operates a dump truck. Operates mini excavator and backhoe. Removes debris from work area and loads in dump truck. Acquires knowledge of pipe and inlet/manhole repair. Operates heavy equipment such as excavator, gradall, loader, dump ruck with no supervision. Hooks up, loads/unloads, and drives the equipment haul truck.

Operate a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to: dump-trucks, pick-up trucks, jackhammers, compressors, picks and shovels, drainage pipe augers, chain saws and hand saws, brooms, hoists, pitchforks, concrete saw and backpack blower. When directed, may perform a variety of grounds maintenance functions including, but not limited to mowing, edging, weeding, brush cutting, seeding, sod laying, tree planting and spreading mulch, topsoil and gravel in landscape areas as needed.
