Educator with nearly 15 years experience, certified in (1801) Cross-Categorical Education, (1701) Broad Field Social Studies, and (1725) History. Experience in general education (social studies) and special education (inclusion, resource and self-contained) at middle and high school level. I'm passionate, data-driven, and motivated by a vision of equitable opportunity for all.
Managed a caseload of around 15 students annually including: writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans; conducting initial evaluations and re-evaluations for services; collaborating and co-teaching across the core curriculum; developing lesson plans and modifications to support diverse learners; working with community programs and advocates; collaboration with parents and other service providers. I also developed and taught a professional development module to other educators on using data to close the race-based achievement gap in Dane County.
Similar responsibilities to the above. Also: developed and implemented a data tracking system school-wide to monitor student growth and achievement data; worked in two alternative settings at a behavioral reassignment/alternative to expulsion site for students with severe behavioral and/or legal challenges, and at a school for pregnant and parenting students.
Selected in the most competitive Teach For America corps in the program's history, which was at that time more selective than a Fulbright scholarship; participated in Summer Institute and weekly professional development; learned to integrate private sector and public sector norms and expectations to create a culture of, and road-map to, achievement. During this time I also ran and implemented a training institute in Dane County with an Americorps program to build and use data to track and increase student literacy in low-income communities.
Led programs in service learning and community engagement for middle and high school students.
