Free becoming a but frustrated with the lack of new clients coming into Jades out of the way salon I met up with Mai lam to discuss a rental arrangement with her at her salon Panache Hair Studio in Montrose in the heart of the Montrose shopping park on Honolulu. She was willing to give me a reduced rate for rent and I was hoppy to be back in the heart of town where walk in traffic is higher. I continue to work on a relatively small handful of clients as it seems many people these days are pinching Pennie’s and going much longer in between visits. While I absolutely love Mai and my other Co-Worker Mia we all enjoy a very peaceful and clean environment. I soon discovered that many of my old clients who I had been doing for upwards 15-20 years had found their way to Mai when I fell ill and needed to find a new hairstylist, it’s been awkward to say the least but I’m unbothered by it. I continue to custom craft my schedule and try to get everyone in on the same day. I was going for more opportunities for walk ins but unbeknownst to me until fairly recently, I discovered that Mia is not also renting but she is on a commission contract with the Owner so generally 9 times out of 10 either Mai the owner will take the client or she will give them to Mia. I’ve taken matters into my own hands and am very persistent with the distribution of my business card and put any new clients I have on a loyalty program, nonetheless my business is not where I want it to be and reasons I mentioned in previous disclosures a change might be what is in order at this time. At panache I continue to fund all my supplies sans back bar products, days that I work I mostly still perform color services and routine haircuts. Most of my clients at this location except for one that I can think of all live locally to Montrose. It’s an enjoyable salon setting and the owner and I get along really well. She does not impose her position by being bossy but rather has full and complete trust in us to be responsible and do our part. She’s also very talented and so is Mia who now happens to be my hairstylist.
