I decided to open a childcare center in my home after seeing the struggles parents and children with special needs faced in commercial childcare centers. Before opening my own daycare, I worked for a commercial childcare center. Parents were often called to pick up their children early due to behavioral problems. I want to note that this was not the childcare center's fault; commercial childcare centers are usually at full capacity.
At one point, we had five children in our daycare, three of whom had special needs. I wanted to provide a place where they had structure, education, and fun. More importantly, I wanted to give them a place where they felt safe, loved, and included. I wanted their parents to have the peace of mind to go to work or school, knowing that their children were safe and cared for.
