Summary

I currently work as a farmer/farmer's wife and mother. I chose to leave employment with Southeast Webster Grand Community School in May 2016 in order to work on the farm. I was the Elementary School Counselor at Southeast Webster Grand for 13 years. I have worked in various professional positions in the human services field for the past 20 years. My goal is to continue to use my counseling, communication and organizational skills as well as past experiences to work for Iowa Central Community College to provide quality services and support to students transitioning from high school into the college/career world.

Online Psychology Teacher

  • In this position I taught online developmental psychology to individuals who were incarcerated and working towards their degree.
  • I developed assignments, quizzes and exams to teach and enhance students understanding of the developmental phases/process of the lifespan.
  • I enhanced student understanding of psychological concepts by incorporating real-life examples and case studies into lesson plans.
  • I increased student participation in online class discussions by creating an open and inclusive learning environment.

As the Elementary School Counselor it was my responsibility to provide all students with preventative programs that teach social/emotional, academic and career skills needed to complete their elementary years successfully in anticipation for junior and senior high.

  • Classroom Guidance consists of the development and delivery of preventative programs, group activities and it involves membership on interdisciplinary teams to develop and define the most affective age appropriate curriculum.
  • Individual planning consists of coordinating ongoing systemic activities designed to help individual students establish personal goals and develop future plans, as well as to resolve/work through personal issues/barriers to their success in school.
  • Responsive services consist of development and delivery of activities to meet the immediate needs and concerns of students through counseling, consultation, referral, and/or providing information.
  • System support consists of management activities that establish, maintain and enhance the total school counseling program.

  • The Parent Involvement Specialist position involved visiting the homes of the children in the Head Start program and completing family needs assessments to determine if any additional assistance is necessary for the child and/or the family
  • I also worked with the family on setting and completing goals, providing referrals for outside services and providing support and advocacy when needed.
  • I completed the Family Development Specialist training, in which many of the skills needed for successful work with families are enhanced. The position also allowed me to work in the classroom with the teacher and assist in the daily routine and meeting academic goals for the children. I also provided support and guidance to the teacher and assisted in any difficulties with the children. In the classroom I have assisted with group activities as well as working one on one with children. I have also been a part of planning and implementing monthly activities with the children and their families, as well as special activities throughout the year.

  • The adoption assistant position was a grant-funded position developed to assist the adoption worker in completing adoptions on a timely basis in a nine county region
  • The position consisted of six months of experience meeting with foster children, foster parents, and biological parents working together to complete child studies for all children in foster care and all children available for adoption
  • It also involved working through the transitioning process for children who are moving to an adoptive home.

  • I worked directly with children and families in maintaining and monitoring services and making changes to the services based upon the strengths and needs of the child and his/her family.
  • This position required direct work with provider agencies, community resources, school systems, and the judicial system. It was extremely important to obtain knowledge and understanding of the community resources and programs available to assist the children and families. It was also very important to use effective collaboration, team meetings, and communication skills in order to carry out successful services to the children and families in need.
