I am very interested in crafting and home decorating in my free time. After I arrived in Tennessee, I became involved in the CISV (Children's International Summer Village) organization. I was selected to be the adult leader to accompany seven 12 year olds to Toronto, Canada on an exchange program for one month in the summer. Each US child in my group had a Canadian partner and we went up there staying in the homes of their Canadian partners. They planned many exciting activities for us.
The next summer, they came to Tennessee for a month. It was my responsibility to plan all activities for them during their stay. It was very exciting because that summer, we had the World's Fair in Knoxville.
A few years later, I took another group of 13 students, ages 13-16 to Germany. That exchange trip was also for two years. I was a "Member-At-Large" with CISV after that. A very fun and rewarding experience!
I was a presenter for the East Tennessee Education Conference for a handwriting pilot program for Blount County Schools in 1985.
In July of 1989, I was selected for the Governor's Academy for Teachers of Writing at the University of Tennessee.
In 1994, I was selected as a CARE nominee to represent my school. (CARE stands for the Chamber Awards and Recognizes Educators Program).
