Additional Information

I raised my son, now 22 years old in Santa Fe. Our home was a safe space for other teens.

My best friend's son died at 14 years of age from a pill he thought was an oxycodone. It contained a lethal dose of fentanyl. He was just weeks out of Juvie for something stupid/bullying incident that he regretted.

My previous partner's nephew has been on the streets for over a decade due his addictions and the revolving door of Santa Fe County. My partner and I worked together with him and his girlfriend to try to get them to a rehab his friend is running in Maine. This friend was also on the streets years ago, another teen brought to this life of drugs after time spent in Juvie.

I interviewed several adults who are involved in supporting our young folks here in New Mexico with Youth Shelters and Family Services and other groups for research on a journalism project. I also interviewed two youth from Gallup and wrote an article.

Through these experiences I gained a level understanding of what our youth are facing in New Mexico. Along with a deep care and concern.
