Projects

Empowering Educators by Using Virtual Reality to Supplement the Traditional Curriculum. International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research, Vienna, Austria. Funded by the REACHE Grant to create a "Virtual Reality Teaching Kit" used by teacher education students in the graduate program at Ithaca College. The kit was used to teach future educators how to conceptualize, test, and implement lesson plans that include virtual reality and immersive technologies. The students in this study reflected on their lesson in areas such as safety, ethical practices, and issues of affordability and accessibility. The end goal was to produce teachers fluent in the curation, implementation, and assessment of immersive technologies.

Exploring Dispositions of Teaching Candidates. Ithaca College. Conducted research examining teaching candidates' perspective on teaching and analyzed changes on beliefs and dispositions during the candidates' time in the Teacher Education program. Candidates were asked to consider and address how they, as public-school teachers, can create a safe, motivational learning environment in which diverse learners can achieve their fullest potential, and to consider students of varied races, ethnicities, linguistic resources, socioeconomic status, religious affiliations, gender identities, sexual orientation, and with identified exceptionalities and geographical area backgrounds.

Transdisciplinary Collaboration to Support Undergraduate Equity and Access to Educational Research and Inquiry. Ireland International Conference on Education, Dublin, Ireland. Conducted research examining the challenges many first-generation college students, low-income students, and racially and linguistically diverse students face as they navigate their experiences as undergraduates. The recognition that the opportunity gap that persists in the K-12 context following many of these students into their college experience is addressed. The outcome was to provide more inclusive learning opportunities for undergraduates engaged in education coursework by considering best practices for developing culturally relevant and inclusive literacy pedagogical practices in undergraduate teaching to support equity and access to rigorous research and inquiry opportunities.

Mindful Interdisciplinary Qualitative Resources for Educators. Ithaca College. Conducted research focused on developing collaborative research objectives of inclusivity and sociocultural literacy in the classroom into concrete research. Facilitated and nurtured a bonding relationship of mid-career women with children to offer an opportunity to discuss critical pedagogy, qualitative research methods, and work-life balance. It focused on creating a collection of resources in various media formats that promoted inclusivity and sociocultural literacy in the classroom and how the mutual mentoring process itself helps to facilitate partnership and make a meaningful contribution to their students, their workplace, and their respective fields.
