I started my dental journey when I went to a training academy for dental assistants here in Bossier City in 2007 and graduated in April 2008. Did my clinicals with Dr. Robert Hill. I subbed for a week with a general dentist doing chair side assisting and cutting out retainers. I have been with Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics since June 2008 to present , where we have been voted the #1 orthodontic office in the area for 13 years! I am also one of the senior assistants.
Over the years, I assisted the Dr chair side. Placed and remove brackets, placed bonded retainers top and bottom, typical adjustments (wire change, listing the patients bite/recording it, rubber bands, etc),repositions, activated exposures, worked with a laser chair side with the Dr, retainer checks, itero scan, set appointments, place space maintainers/expanders, worked with CS5/forsus appliances, sterilize instruments, take X-rays (our Shreveport office had the CBCT machine and our Bossier office had the regular pano/ceph machine), photos, scan in Spark/Invisalign when it gets delivered to our office (I’m in charge of scanning them in once we receive them and file them away properly), I run the sterilizer weekly test to make sure our sterilizer is working properly and nothing is wrong with it as well making sure all of our units (8 total) are working properly. If not, I get in touch with our fix it guy. I took inventory of our Myobrace appliances also. I can also do certain procedures without a Dr present or have a Dr check my patient. Our Drs have trained us to be “mini orthodontists” and keep their time at the chair to a minimum. I’m used to a fast pace environment and a huge office. I am CPR certified and OSHA trained. Up to date on all shots. EDDA. I can use a high speed for polishing adhesive off the teeth and a slow speed.
I’ve worked with the TOPs charting system. We use the Patients Reward Program to give patients points and use Braces Academy to send descriptive videos on all procedures and rubber band images-created by our very own Dr. Chris Cosse.
I’ve worked with suresmile wires, smart clip brackets, self ligatedbrackets, D3 brackets, DQ brackets, DQ Clear brackets, indirect bondings and the Ultima brackets.
Before the Itero machine came to our office, we would do impressions and pour them up.
I’ve only worked at one orthodontic office since I was 20 (15 1/2years) and I’ve grown and learned a lot from them. Like when to be serious and when to have fun! I have worked with kids and adults. Some with autism, Down syndrome and some that were cleft.
I love seeing patients reactions to their new smiles! It’s heartfelt and a great feeling seeing them smile, sometimes for the first time.
