The first 9 years of my career were spent in a orthopedic inpatient unit and rehab unit providing post op surgical care. I then transitioned to 9 years of orthopedic outpatient office experience. The last 4 years I have taken care of patients in a Pre surgical setting. During my time working as an inpatient nurse, I worked with total joint replacement post op patients. I assisted patients with post op dressing care, proper body mechanics following surgery, including ambulating, and using assisted devices. During my time in the office, I was the lead nurse for the Williamsport location of Sun Orthopedic Group. I traveled to Lewisburg and Selinsgrove as well. I primarily worked with total joint patients, in the beginning I was administering cortisone injections and performing knee aspirations. I drew up injections for the physician and physician assistants to administer. I also removed sutures and staples following surgery. I was able to receive my cast certification in my 1st few years there. After that I was able to cast and splint fracture patients that came into the office. I have experience working on a triage phone line, assisting patients with their questions and concerns giving them direction from the physicians on their care. I have experience in chart preparation for an office visit, locating missing reports for upcoming visits and chart preparation for upcoming surgeries. During my recent time at UPMC, I am the lead LPN in their Pre Admission Testing department. I preform preop testing as well as surgical chart preparation. I have acquired phlebotomy skills,the skill to perform EKG’s, and provide pre surgical patient education.
