As a Journeyman Lineman, I have many roles and responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Working safely and efficiently at all times.
  • Rubber gloves and hot sticks are all primary/sub transmission voltages.
  • Operating construction vehicles, which include bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, property line diggers, bucket trucks, and cable pulling equipment.
  • Works safely with others, collaborating, instructing, and directing apprentices and helpers/groundmen.
  • Installs and removes equipment such as poles, cross arms, towers, enclosures, ducts, piping, and electrical or other apparatus such as transformers, switches, capacitors, pot heads, protective devices, cooling or insulating equipment, emergency gear, and automatic reclosers.
  • Worked many hours inspecting power poles, hardware, wire, automation, switches, etc.
  • And wrote up any hazards or infractions that could cause public harm or wildfires.
  • Able to troubleshoot various circuitry, primary, and secondary problems, and repair accordingly.
  • Installs, removes, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground distribution, and communication systems.
  • Installs, removes, splices, bonds, terminates, and tests conductors and cables.
  • Works as an upgrade foreman when the district foreman is not at work.
  • (Runs crew and radio) Upgraded/Temporary Foreman.
  • Connects, tests, adjusts, repairs, and maintains electrical equipment and apparatus.
  • Using precautionary procedures, necessary tools, and safety equipment to work on or near energized lines or equipment.
