- I completed a 720-hour apprenticeship at Fanshawe College, where I completed classes in metallurgy, GD&T/print reading, drafting, die operations, jigs and fixtures, precision measuring equipment, geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. As well as gaining the ability to operate machines such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, bandsaws, manual surface grinders, blanchard grinders, and wet grinders to cut, bore, grind, and shape parts to the necessary dimensions. I was also receiving on-the-job training for tool and die maintenance while taking the classes.
- Experience in repairing and performing preventative maintenance on roller dies, draw dies, pierce dies, snap ring dies, trim dies, and blanking dies to create various automotive transmission parts.
- Troubleshooting dies to find the root cause of any issues that are dimensionally or visually wrong with the part, and making the necessary adjustments to bring the part into the customers specifications.
- Take part in continuous improvement and cost saving meetings where we discuss our main sources of downtime and how we can improve on these issues.
- The ability to design, weld, and fabricate brackets, scrap chutes, etc. as needed.
- Received training in quality assurance where I learned how to operate CMM machines, Surface testers, use a multitude of different part specific gages, and do weld checks.
- Received training as a press operator of transfer presses, where I gained experience with finger/sensor adjustments, coil changes, press controls, and conveyor repairs.
- Experience in replacing and rebuilding tooling, such as mandrels, rollers/spindles, tailstock spindles, and main spindles in flow forms.
- Interpret CMM or gauging information and adjust tooling to ensure tolerance requirements.
