As a General Foreman (GF) I perform oversight of various programs including SUBSAFE, DSS/SOC, Level 1, Steam plant, etc
Oversight includes attending readiness assessment briefs (RABs), interactive briefs, and supporting supervisors and mechanics as needed to ensure all potential hurdles are overcome
While in RAB attendance I perform reviews and investigations of task group instructions (TGIs) to ensure all the applicable program requirements are met and ask mechanics open ended questions to ensure they understand the nature and severity of the work they are performing
I ensure all supervisors within my area of responsibility (AOR) are following the correct steps for RAB notification to meet the requirements outlined in the Non-Nuclear Work Execution instruction
When issues are identified within TGIs, I ensure the mechanics and supervisors understand the requirements for reporting to ensure compliance with production work requirements
I attend project meetings and communicate with assistant project superintendents (APS), zone managers (ZM), and engineering daily to ensure safety and process requirements are executed with first time quality
I track work in progress and planned work, then brief the status of my AOR to my shop director and other general foreman
During weekly meetings with other shop management, I discuss areas of priority and project problems that may affect work completion relating to SUBSAFE, Steam plant, or Level 1 problems
I brief lessons learned from critical events and provide recommendations to the other general foreman to aid in preventing reoccurrence
Using the consolidated actions and tracking system (CATS) I respond to items identified during SUBSAFE, Steam plant, and Level 1 audits utilizing an audit/surveillance response form
Reports include identified findings, corrective actions, a review of similar and past problems, as well as identify root causes and any preventive actions taken
I have led and been a part of LEAN events that aided in the improvement of the machining of SUBSAFE hatches
When a complex problem is identified, I provide simple solutions to project management that have reduced the time taken to complete complex jobs
I am proficient in the review and approval of process procedures to ensure compliance with shipyard requirements, policies, and procedures
I pride myself in being proactive and take the initiative to volunteer for tasks that better my shop and the people I encounter daily
Most of my time spent as a General Foreman has included the oversight of the Hatch Team AOR
Duties include extensive review of complex quality assurance (QA) forms to ensure the correct joints are listed, and that they match what is listed on the Re-Entry Control form
I mentor mechanics and supervisors on the requirements for filling out QA forms and what instructions to follow to ensure all material is correctly documented
