I participated in the UTCVM Veterinary Summer Experience for high school students interested in the field of veterinary medicine. I spent five weeks working at a local clinic learning the basics of animal restraint, vaccines, diagnostic testing, radiographs, surgical procedures and in-hospital treatment. We then spent a sixth week in Knoxville at the veterinary teaching hospital with various clinicians and senior veterinary students learning about the diverse careers through various rotations and lectures. At the end of the week, we presented a case we witnessed while in clinics to our peers and mentors.
