Plastic Mold Welder/Fabricator

Seljan Tool
04.2008 - 10.2008
  • I was given a blueprint and materials to fabricate a mold for rotational plastic molding
  • I utilized fabrication tools such as a drill press, sheet metal hand brake, roll former, chop saw, band saw and shear to make "details" to print. Once the details were made I then proceeded to tack weld using a TIG welder, these parts together. Then once completely tack welded together I then checked dimensional tolerances, making adjustments if need be. Once dimensional correction was verified I then continued to TIG weld the assembly together. Once together, I then MIG welded a frame to the mold for protection and structural integrity. When finally welded, all welds within the mold had to be ground down using a pneumatic die grinder or dyna-file removing all pits or imperfections from the material so plastic would not "hang up" and create an imperfection in the molded part
