Years of commercial HVAC&R experience and maintenance
I am one of two HVAC&R maintenance technicians for a maintenance company called Subsouth. We take care of all maintenance calls and preventative maintenance on all equipment and any plumbing in over 200 Subway restaurant locations. I am required to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all equipment on site at time of service call.
I usually run between 5-8 service calls a day, while also usually adding 2-3 more items needing repair upon arrival of each store/service call.
I also perform full preventative maintenance on all equipment which a detailed check list is filled out, dated, and sent in after each PM. I am 1 of the 2 guys that knows HVAC and refrigeration, and is EPA certified, so needless to say they keep me pretty busy. So I am used to running multiple calls in a day, but still being able to fix the equipment, not just bandaging it. I also do a lot of soldering/brazing, which includes compressors, TXVs/metering devices, both condenser and evaporator coils. Aside from HVAC&R repairs I also know how to work on all aspects of maintenance, like plumbing, working on bread ovens and proofers, changing light ballist and converting to LED, and working on subways toaster ovens.
At Del-Air I started out as a helper and worked my way up to an HVAC technician where I:
Maintained and repaired industrial chillers weighing up to 85 tons
I was lucky enough to learn, and work with some of, who I consider, the smartest HVAC minds in this area. I work solely with their best boiler, and chiller tech for months. Learning everything there is to know about water, and fire tube boilers, and steam boilers. Changing pump seals gaskets motors all the way up to 40 horsepower motors. Also worked on everything down to a one and a half ton split, and even the Barrd wall units. I also got a lot of experience in working on water source heat pumps as I worked for Del-Air's KUB subcontract.
I never turned down extra work or extra hours, as I helped the install crews out anytime they needed extra help I was always the first person my service manager would ask because she knew I would help. Ivan worked with their plumbing crew here and there mainly because I was just good help whether I knew what we were doing or not. One experience I really enjoyed (but also dreaded) was a big new construction install job of a VRF system. I really took an interest into that type of HVAC system, I was never able to take any classes on it but I would love to in the future.
