I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist with nine years of clinical experience. I joined the military in 2013 under the Army's MLT program where I received a year of training and earned my ASCP certification and my AS shortly thereafter. After leaving active duty and moving back to South Carolina I was hired by Mary Black Memorial Hospital in 2016 where I worked as a generalist on both second and third shift before transferring to Spartanburg Medical Center in 2019 as a Blood Bank specialist and earned my BS. I currently work as a traveling MLS, bring to my organization a precision and efficiency demanded by my background and I am always looking to expand both my knowledge and my experience in this field.
I currently work as a traveling MLS for various Medical field contractors. My prior assignment was with Bon Secours St. Francis where I was chosen specifically for my Blood Bank expertise. In addition, I have returned to core lab with no issue, continue to expand my familiarity with the methodologies and technology of the industry, and look forward to helping any future laboratories that will have me.
In 2019 I transferred to SMC's Transfusion Services department, a level I trauma center responsible for all of the traumas in the county. It was here, working third shift that I participated in:
This department definitively taught me how to work well under extreme pressure, coordinate with others, and gave me the confidence to make the right decisions when management is unavailable.
Working at Mary Black specifically as a second shift tech was a monumental factor in my growth in this field. A faster more demanding workflow and the responsibility of handling multiple departments at once taught me a great deal.
I joined the military in 2013 to become an MLT through their 68kilo program. While going through the program a few experiences worthy of note were:
All of this while both learning and performing the duties required of me as a soldier made my experience at Womack a fast paced, challenging and invigorating time in my clinical career.
