I have been an RN for the last 30 years. With 26 of those years in the ER I enjoy my work. I have strong nursing skills and I am a team player. I enjoyed travel nurse assignments from 6/1/2016 until 6/24/2023; at which time I took a fulltime ER position. I enjoy working Emergency Care.
At Newman Memorial the Emergency Department RN is also the House Supervisor and frequently the only RN in the facility at night. Most of our trauma was related to oilfield or Motor vehicle accidents. Psychiatric and Drug and alcohol related patients were also present. Stroke and Cardiac patients. Some pediatric patients mostly non emergent unless it was related to an appendix or a motor vehicle accident.
I went to Newman Memorial Hospital because of a preaching opportunity. I am studying to be an ordained minister, and this was a great learning opportunity. Three months after I got there the church was sold and I stayed because they really needed the help.
I live in Mcloud Oklahoma, but I have family in Seiling Oklahoma I could stay with when I worked, but it was a 55 mile drive each way every day. I stayed to help for a year but now I would like to get back home and to a more active ER.
I worked in the ER .
In this Emergency Department we are a rural facility. We have Trauma, Cardiac, Stroke, Diabetes, Obstetrics and Psychological related emergencies that are diagnosed, stabilized and then flown out to higher level of care. We occasionally had to deliver babies, a majority of those we delivered were meth addicted babies.
There is a lot of alcoholism and drug addiction here. I have a passion for Recovery and have done a lot of drug and alcohol teaching and provided resources for individuals to find help.
We also have a very high Suicide rate, and we have people from the age of 10 to 70 who we have evaluated by E-Avera telemed Psych staff and then we get them accepted in to inpatient if needed or schedule them with our Behavioral Health.
We have all the same problems as big city hospitals but very limited resources out in this geographical area.
I was an ER nurse, I have a lot of trauma experience, we were also a Stroke Center, Cardiac Care Center, and Burn Center, and a Cancer Center. I have strong IV skills. I have very good people skills.

I was a nurse in the medical department of a women's prison. The job did not suit me. I view all people as equals and the job required inmates to be treated as lower class than the staff and it was very military like.
