Accomplishments

  • · Simulation education of cardiac arrest scenarios with nursing and anesthesia. Designed to improve communication, task rehearsal, and critical thinking through hands on practice and reflective debriefing.
  • · A 4-hour skills day. This included a lecture on anesthetic agents that provided contact hours, review of respiratory complications, hemodynamics, ABG interpretation, neuro procedures, EVD’s, and lumbar drains. Multiple hands-on stations were offered to review the code cart, arterial lines, vasopressors, and intubation emergencies.
  • · Lunch and learn. Developed to provide an informal opportunity for education during an extended lunch period.
  • · Journal club. A monthly meeting to review a selected peer reviewed article relevant to our practice.
  • · Anesthesia talks. Bimonthly presentations from our PACU anesthesia residents on various anesthesia related topics.
  • · In-services from surgical specialties related to new procedures or advances.
