I was a student-athlete at Allan Hancock College this past March my basketball career ended due to my two years of athletics were up. I am currently just a student at Hancock, studying to finish my AA in health science. My two pervious jobs jobs were beneficial to basketball. At Champs Sporting Goods, we sell basketball shoes, that I am constantly researching and adjusting to changes due to new releases or popular trends. Being a busser shines my communication skills and quickness at grabbing plates and fulfilling customers request. Being able to have awareness about peoples' personality helps with building connections. Also being a team member in responsibility of running a whole restaurant adds pressure and intensity into lots of situation, thanks to basketball I have learned to work through that. At the Good Samaritan Shelter I learned to navigate through clients mental illness and toughness that comes with working with them. Working as a staff member there comes with a lot of responsibility and sometimes the task is to make big decision but there is always good intentions behind them. Basketball has added skills that I have used since I started working. Now that basketball is over, I have more time and determination to get things done for myself.
