Summary

As a Sign Language Interpreter, I have had the privilege and honor over the past 25 years of facilitating communication between people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH) and Hearing people. My daily work in the field of interpreting typically includes simultaneous interpretation between English and American Sign Language (ASL). Through my education, years of experience as an interpreter and ongoing training, I am continually honing my skills in bridging the gap between the Deaf and Hearing worlds in such a way that allows Deaf people the ability to fully engage in employment, healthcare, volunteer work, schooling and even leisure activities within the Hearing world. As a cultural mediator, my work often includes educating Hearing people about Deaf culture. Part of my role is to provide guidance to hearing consumers on navigating interactions with Deaf participants and how to make sure that there is communication equity and equal opportunities for engagement and involvement by Deaf consumers.
